A new class of energy development.
NextGen Energy has pioneered Community Energy Infrastructure (CEI), a new class of energy development that fixes the structural problem the clean energy market had long accepted as fixed: individual municipal energy projects are too small for institutional investors, and that prevents large institutions from serving individual cities and towns.
NGE is a clean energy infrastructure builder, financial architect, and community advocate that structures community-scale clean energy systems into institutional-grade investment vehicles. NGE manages the full lifecycle on behalf of its stakeholders — communities and investors alike — from design and construction through long-term operations and ultimate decommissioning.
We do this by bringing together consortiums of municipal and other critical-facility projects, each receiving their own dedicated clean energy infrastructure, and structuring them into a single Virtual Power Plant that meets institutional scale. This offers stable, contracted cash flows backed by municipal credit, and a portfolio of independent community systems that is more resilient than any single large facility.

America's power grid was not built for today, or tomorrow.
The centralized electricity infrastructure that powers the United States was designed for a different era — engineered around large, centralized fossil-fuel generation, one-way power flows, and a predictable load profile. Today, that model is failing: visibly, expensively, and increasingly dangerously.
The barrier is structural, not technological.
Communities across the country — towns, cities, counties — know they need resilient, clean, affordable energy. Most cannot get it.
Community-scale clean energy systems are undersized for institutional investors: a single municipal microgrid does not meet the deployment minimums that pension funds, infrastructure funds, and tax equity investors require. At the same time, the complexity of project finance, tax equity structures, utility interconnection, and long-term operations is far beyond the bandwidth of a town administrator or select board.
The result: communities that need resilient clean energy the most are precisely the ones the market has failed to serve. Clean energy developers build for large commercial and industrial customers. Utilities build what regulators allow them to cost-recover. No one has been building for cities and towns.
This is the gap NextGen Energy was established to close.
